Joy can coexist with an honest reading of the facts. It need not deny grief, uncertainty, injustice, or fatigue in order to be real.
Sometimes joy is less a verdict on circumstances than a way of remaining available to life within them. A good meal, a shared laugh, or a patch of sky can matter without canceling what is hard.
