My days at Baylor were not too different from my days as part of a company. I had to manage my time. I had to divide it into certain pieces so that I’d get as much done as I possibly could. And I had to have the discipline to stay focused on the most important things that needed to get done.
Leading is not just about managing people. To lead, you have to help people understand where we’re trying to take the company and what their role is in getting it there.
There are unique opportunities for differentiating yourself from competition. By the way, they don’t come along every day. And usually, they show up in a crisis.
Our job is to get customers in a position where they’re the most efficient and effective they can be.
We should not get scared about innovation. It makes us more efficient and frees up capital for our customers to reinvest in other things.
AI and its offshoot, machine learning, will be a foundational tool for creating social good as well as business success.
Remember what’s bigger, to me, about the cloud isn’t so much the technology. It’s just as much about the business model. It’s just about what the customer needs to do to enable their business.
