— Doves
And there my little doves did sitTo general Nature's deep delight.
The thrustelcok made eek hir lay,She sang ful loude and cleere.
As when the dove returning bore the markAnd the fair bearer of the message bless'd.
Listen, sweet Dove, unto my song,Till it get wing, and flie away with Thee.
See how that pair of billing dovesThe downy quiet of their nest.
Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.
And oft I heard the tender doveIn firry woodlands making moan.
I heard a Stock-dove sing or sayThat was the song,—the song for me!
Wood-pigeons cooed there, stock-doves nestled there;Their branches spread a city to the air.
With his mouth full of newsWhich he will put on us, as pigeons feed their young.
Thou pigeon-egg of discretion.
This fellow pecks up wit as pigeons pease.
The wood pigeon's voice is the glory of the garden.
'Tis a bird I love, with its brooding note,He runs so close to the rapid wheel.
The Dove,On silver pinions, winged her peaceful way.
Not half so swift the trembling doves can fly,When thro' the clouds he drives the trembling doves.
Anon, as patient as the female dove,His silence will sit drooping.
The dove and very blessed spirit of peace.
So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows.
